Unity Class Outreach Efforts

This Fall has seen an increase in our class’ Community Outreach participation. Sure has felt good to give back! In October, several of our members joined with Chevron’s workday at the Houston Food Bank. We rolled up our sleeves and did various jobs like food sorting, repacking, baked goods distribution, accounting/inventory and clean up. We were also joined by volunteers from other companies in the area. It was a great learning experience, plus gave us the opportunity to get to know folks outside Bethany and Chevron. The afternoon’s total work output (from all volunteers, combined) equated to 26, 137 meals organized. Amazing what can be done when many people pitch in! Many thanks to Chris Sorensen for organizing this event. We may go again in the new year; watch for news of upcoming opportunities!

In addition to our Food Bank efforts, Unity also had class members participating in the Amazing Place Zinger Team, walking the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, and people helping with the Small Steps Nurturing Center Quilt Project. We’ve had fun joining other Bethany friends in these activities, as well as getting acquainted with new friends outside our walls.
